    Back Up Your iPhone

    Essential step to protect your data before installing beta software.

    Important Warning
    The iOS 26 beta is still in development, which means some applications and services may not work as expected and their data may not be backwards compatible. Be sure to back up your iOS device with Finder/iTunes before installing the software.

    How to Backup Your iPhone

    Follow these steps to create a complete backup of your iPhone before installing iOS 26 Beta:

  • Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC using a USB cable
  • On Mac (macOS Catalina or later): Open Finder and select your iPhone from the sidebar
  • On PC or older Mac: Open iTunes and select your iPhone
  • Click "Back up all of the data on your iPhone to this Mac/PC"
  • Select "Encrypt local backup" to include passwords and Health data
  • Click "Back Up Now" and wait for the process to complete
  • Backup your iPhone using Finder on macOS

    Pro Tip
    We recommend that you do an iTunes backup and archive it before installing the iOS beta. You can also create an iCloud backup as an additional safety measure by going to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now.

    Sign In to the Apple Developer Center

    Access beta updates through your Apple Account - no paid membership required.

    Free Apple Developer Account

    Sign in to developer.apple.com/account using your Apple Account. You don't need to join Apple's Developer Program, no payment is required, just sign in and agree to the terms and conditions (if any).

  • Go to developer.apple.com/account in your web browser
  • Click "Sign In" and enter your Apple ID credentials
  • Accept the Apple Developer Agreement if prompted
  • Complete any additional verification steps if required
  • You'll now have access to beta software downloads
  • Sign in to the Apple Developer Center with your Apple ID

    No Payment Required
    You don't need a paid Apple Developer Program membership to access iOS beta updates. A free Apple ID is sufficient to download and install beta software on your personal devices.

    Enable Beta Updates

    Configure your iPhone to receive iOS 26 Beta updates directly in Settings.

    Access Beta Updates in Settings

    Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and then choose iOS 26 Developer Beta.

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone
  • Tap General
  • Tap Software Update
  • Tap Beta Updates
  • Select iOS 26 Developer Beta
  • Enter your device passcode when prompted
  • Enable Beta Updates in iPhone Settings

    If you don't see the Beta Updates option, please wait for a while or try again at a different time. Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID that you used to access the Developer Center.

    Update Your iPhone

    Download and install iOS 26 Beta on your iPhone.

    Install iOS 26 Beta

    Go back to Software Update, wait a moment for the update to appear, then tap the Update Now button to start the download.

  • Return to Settings > General > Software Update
  • Wait for iOS 26 Beta to appear (may take a few minutes)
  • Tap Download and Install
  • Enter your device passcode when prompted
  • Agree to the Terms and Conditions
  • Wait for the download and installation to complete
  • Your iPhone will restart automatically when finished

    Installation Requirements
    Make sure your iPhone has at least 50% battery charge and is connected to Wi-Fi. The download size is typically 3-7 GB depending on your current iOS version. The installation process may take 30-60 minutes.
    Stopping Beta Updates
    You can always switch to the "Off" option in the Beta Updates to stop receiving future iOS 26 beta updates. However, if you want to roll back to the previous stable version, you'll need to do this through your PC or Mac.
