tvOS 19 will follow the same release schedule as iOS 19:

  • Developer Beta: Available immediately after the WWDC25 keynote in June 2025.
  • Public Beta: Expected in July 2025, a few weeks after the developer beta.
  • Official Release: Expected in September 2025, alongside iOS 19.

Apple typically releases tvOS alongside iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, so the dates should align with the iOS 19 release schedule.

Based on Apple's typical support patterns, tvOS 19 is expected to be compatible with the following Apple TV models:

  • Apple TV 4K (4th generation, expected in 2024/2025)
  • Apple TV 4K (3rd generation, 2022)
  • Apple TV 4K (2nd generation, 2021)
  • Apple TV 4K (1st generation, 2017)
  • Apple TV HD (2015)

Apple TV models typically have longer support cycles than iPhones or iPads, so even older models often receive the latest tvOS updates.

Installing the tvOS 19 beta on your Apple TV can be done in two ways:

Method 1: Profile Installation (Easiest):
  1. On your Apple TV, go to Settings > System > Software Updates > Get Beta Updates
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID that's enrolled in the Apple Developer Program or Apple Beta Software Program
  3. Select the tvOS 19 beta
  4. Go back to Settings > System > Software Updates
  5. Select "Update Software" to download and install the beta
Method 2: Using a Mac and Xcode (For Developers):
  1. Connect your Apple TV and Mac to the same network
  2. On your Apple TV, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Remote App and Devices
  3. On your Mac, open Xcode
  4. Go to Window > Devices and Simulators
  5. Select your Apple TV when it appears
  6. Click on "Pair with Apple TV"
  7. Enter the verification code displayed on your Apple TV
  8. Once paired, you can install the tvOS beta using Xcode

Note: Unlike iOS or watchOS, tvOS betas are generally more stable and less risky to install on your primary device. However, it's still a beta, so some apps or features may not work correctly.
